  • We are a "Closed Cattery." This means for the safety of our family and our cats, we do not welcome people into our home for viewing or to pick up a kitten. We also do not interact with interested parties via FaceTime or phone calls. We both work outside of the home. Cat breeding is our hobby. We cannot be available for hours of phone conversations. Kittens are chosen from our website, social media and email correspondence via photos, descriptions and videos we provide. Emails/online chats allow for more flexibility to reply and a good record of conversations for which to refer back. We understand there are a lot of scammers on the web. They also scam via phone calls and FaceTime- we ourselves were nearly the victims of them! We are always happy to provide veterinary and/or past adopter references. If this at any point this brings any feelings of unease or discomfort, please pursue an open cattery or one allowing visitors.
  • We do NOT offer shipping or work with pet transport. This is non-negotiable. All kittens must be picked up in Bangor, Maine by the purchaser at a PUBLIC location. Kittens are provided with a free cardboard cat carrier to prevent risk of escape. If you are too worried about possible scamming or illegitimate breeding practices by meeting publicly- again, you are urged to choose another cattery. We do not feel comfortable in having to open our home, family and cats to visitation from strangers to ease these suspicions. We post numerous photos and videos showing our home, cats' daily lives, living quarters, etc on our Facebook Page; Top Notch Persians of Maine.
  • Deposits are always required to reserve any kitten before we meet an adopter, or for addition to our waiting lists for future litters. These are ALWAYS non-refundable and non-transferrable (if being applied toward a specific kitten.) Deposits are $500 per kitten and are deducted from the kitten's purchase price. Deposits are accepted digitally via Venmo, Cash app, or PayPal (+ $25 to cover PayPal fees.) Holding deposits are required for all kittens; future litters, nursing babies and any kittens/cats ready now- regardless of age. We go through an extensive preparation process before meeting adopters; grooming right before leaving, arranging travel carrier, gathering records and kitten kit, scheduling a time to meet, etc. This ensures the adopter is serious in meeting. Unfortunately we've had people ask to meet up and pay the kitten's full price upon meet, only to no show, which costs us hours in preparation. Deposits help to ensure adopters are committed to meeting and most importantly, to the kitten. All deposits are non-refundable and non-transferable; regardless of when placed, duration of time between placing deposit and cancelling sale, or reasoning for backing out of the kitten purchase.
  • Kittens remain with us until 12-14 weeks of age. On rare occasion they are permitted to leave as early as 10 weeks depending upon that kitten's individual development.
  • All kittens are placed as "pets," with neutering being required by the time they are 9 months of age. After we receive proof of neutering, we will email the adopter their kitten's CFA registration application. We can arrange to have kittens altered before leaving for an additional fee. Sometimes kittens are offered for sale already altered depending upon age.
  • Kittens are from DNA tested FeLV/FIV/PKD negative parents/lines. They are guaranteed for one year from birth against any life threatening genetic health defects. Our cats are extremely consciously and intentionally bred with soundness of mind and body as our primary goals. We want and strive to produce the BEST possible well-rounded Persian beauties we can. They aren't just our hobby; but our pride and passion. We use very prestigious pedigreed lines; our queen's mom herself being a CFA Champion. HOWEVER, every kitten produced is an individual. No matter how intentional, discriminatory and conscientious the breeding; problems can and may arise. Buyers are responsible for researching the Persian breed, must be prepared for potential predisposed issues and otherwise.
  • We require all adopters to give us first refusal to re-obtain any of our kittens should they find they can no longer keep them. If able, we will take them back at no refund to the purchaser. If we're unable to take them back, we will help to arrange a home.
  • All kittens sales are final with no refunds or returns for any reason (aside from the genetic health guarantee.) This includes but is not limited to; housing requirements, incompatibility with other pets/family members, personal reasons, etc.
  • Sadly we've had a recent influx of non-serious inquiries. Please be certain you are READY to actually acquire a kitten and UNDERSTAND/AGREE to all of our cattery policies before investing both of our time into submitting an adoption application. Wanting and dreaming about a Persian kitten versus being ready and prepared to welcome one into your life are two vastly different concepts. Persians are a potential 20 year commitment and are not considered low maintenance pets. Make sure you've done your research and understand potential health problems associated with the breed as well as basic maintenance requirements. No amount of caution taken on the breeder's or buyer's behalf can totally eliminate the risk of potential health issues. Embarking upon a Persian means YOU as an educated purchaser are aware and willing to deal with breed-specific issues or otherwise. These are living beings; problems can occur for various reasons.
